This is a story about a spectacular mountain property. How it came to be developed is a fusion of history, family ties and a vision toward the future. The farmhouse that is the centerpiece of the property was occupied by the developers’ great grandmother and most recently by their late parents - a span in excess of 100 years. After developers, Dale and Harry Blackey, acquired the property they formed a partnership of brothers, who until recently walked separate paths in different states. Dale, a custom home builder with an extraordinary reputation, lives with his family on the property and Harry, a developer of condominium and single family home communities for 30 years, resides in Massachusetts.

Originally, Dale and Harry acquired the property with the intent of reselling it after their parents’ death. Two years of dealing with the issues of common ownership and many hours of discussion about the property and the mutual interest they had in the home construction business gave way to a more thoughtful plan for the future. The brothers decided that they could most appropriately ensure that the family legacy could best be continued if the property were developed by them in a way that would allow the families ‘fingerprint’ to remain with the land forever.

With the help of a team of experienced planners, engineers, market researchers and attorneys, Dale and Harry set out to develop their vision with one eye on the past and one toward the future. Today the planning for that vision is complete and the implementation is underway. The development plan calls for the creation of mini neighborhoods of custom-designed single-family and condominium homes to be constructed under Dale’s watchful eye by his custom home building company, Twin Oaks Construction. The homes have been designed with traditional exteriors reminiscent of the past but with floor plans and interior amenities that focus on the future.

A pine grove, adjacent to a spring-fed pond that was meticulously maintained by the developer’s father is being transformed into a recreation area for residents. Mature trees which have graced the property for many years have been carefully moved to strategic locations within the development and over half of the property is being left in its natural state.

We invite you to visit Mountain View Farm, a place where the future embodies the past and a family’s tradition is influencing progress.

A Residential Community

Mountain View Farm, when completed, will be home to 83 families living in single family and condominium homes arranged in mini neighborhoods. The homes will be constructed in open meadows and densely treed forest land surrounded by more than half of the 100 acre site which will be left it its natural state. The topography of home sites ranges from gently rolling to mountain side locations with spectacular long southern views. The focal point of the development is an existing antique farmhouse that sits at center stage on the landscape where it will serve as a reminder of the property’s past as well as a visual amenity. The property’s frontage and entrance have been enhanced with farm pasture fencing and existing vegetation has been supplemented with numerous mature trees transplanted from elsewhere on the property.

Amenities on-site will include vast areas of naturally existing woodland with walking trails, a pond that has potential not only as a visual amenity but also for fishing and winter ice skating. A pond-side recreation area includes a soccer field, picnic area with grills, children’s play structure and play ground, half basketball court and a covered pavilion for community gatherings.

Custom designed homes feature traditional exterior architecture reminiscent of the past coupled with interior designs that beckon the future. Initially four home styles are offered, some with potential variations in exterior treatments, a farmer's porch option and 2, 3 and 4 bedroom alternatives. All homes currently offered will have two car garages. Home exteriors feature no maintenance vinyl clapboards, custom accent siding shingles and architectural grade asphalt roof shingles with a 20 year warrantee. Lots will be fully landscaped including generous tree and shrub packages and will have paved driveways. Each home’s yard will be accented by a custom post light integrated with farm pasture fencing and a custom mailbox and post. Entry walks will be concrete and outdoor living space will include Mahoney decks and hard surface patios.

Home interiors will feature painted traditional wood trim, large windows, fireplaces, ceramic tile and carpeted floors, vaulted ceilings, full basements and fully applianced kitchens. Town water and sewer are provided and heat and hot water are fueled by gas. All homes will have the latest in connection options for cable TV and computers.

We hope you will come and see what we mean when we say we build neighborhoods as well as homes.
